The tall pine stood strong in the cold winter breeze.

Green needles hung tightly as it swayed.

A few feet away grew a small quiet tree.

With branches that curved every way.

That tree is so straight, with its branches so tall.

And its beautiful green foliage all year.

Little tree thought, he felt bushy and small.

“I will never be like you, I fear”.

The wind blew fast through the tall pine up above.

The small tree stood tight in the cold.

Each had its purpose created from love.

Each had some gifts that they hold.

You see Mr. Tall pine loves sun and the breeze.

It shades those below all year long.

Green needles stretch outward, to gather the light,

a soft bed underneath to rest on.

You, little tree have some gifts of your own.

Each year as your leaves turn and fall.

Your twisting and curving of branches hold fast,

a shelter and refuge for all.

Each spring you announce, It is here, with your buds, not taller but fuller you get.

Many creatures find safety for building their nests, deep inside all your curves, free from threat.

While the tall pine sores high, stay small little tree, difference is needed each day.

When working together, giving freely to all, “Well done, my good servant” He’ll say.
